Kids Matter supplies contracts tailored for you and your nanny.
If you are employing a childcarer permanently you will need to have a contract of employment between you and the childcarer.
The contract needs to outline the purpose of the employment including the employee's duties and responsibilities. Ask us for more information on our comprehensive REC approved contracts.
As an employer you will need Employers Liability Insurance.
Is your nanny going to be driving either your car or their own? Make sure you have the correct motor insurance in place. Ensure you have correctly-fitted child safety equipment. Remember, if your nanny is driving your children their standard motor insurance policy may not cover them.
Kids Matter can refer you to companies that will assist you with insurance.
Always find out if your Nanny has another job and ask her to put this in writing.
Keep in mind if you overlook your duty as an employer, HMRC will penalise you, not your Nanny.
If you pay your part-time Nanny less than £105 per week and she has another job that brings her total earnings above the weekly threshold. You will still have to register as an employer as you may have to pay tax and NIC on their behalf.
You are responsible for paying your Nanny’s tax and NIC.
It is your responsibility as an employer to ensure that tax and NICs are deducted from your childcarer's salary. If your nanny declares to be self-employed make sure you have confirmation in writing from their tax office.
We recommend Nannytax to assist you with your payroll.
